1824

The House of Alfredo D'Amato took its origin at the beginning of the 19th century near Florence. Gioberto D'Amato, a talented apprentice of the famous Italian jeweler Fortunato Pio Castellani, was ambitious enough to stand in line with the teacher and conceived his workshop. Gioberto passed on his talent for jewelry-making to his son Alberto, but his grandson, Alfredo, led the small workshop into a different path.

1872

Alfredo D'Amato had a passion for gems since childhood, while he witnessed family crafts led by his father. In 1872, Alfredo graduated from gemology lessons he had been taking in Florence and Genoa and returned to his family.

1876

Though his tireless work honed his skills and senses, a lack of freedom stood between him and his father's vision on a business matter. The richness of precious stones and light that could be easily born from the edges of gems was a dream to be embedded. And in 1876, young Alfredo escaped to Africa, joining raising rival of Cecil Rhodes – Barney Barnato. He studied the newly discovered diamond mines of Kimberley, South Africa. Dynamic work under rich blue skies and the opportunity to be a first-hand gemologist in a rapidly developing mining business sharpened Alfredo's confidence in his ideas for creating exquisite high jewelry for clientele all over the expanding world. Language of stones remained his main passion, being spoken through his later art pieces.

1894

In 1888, "Kimberley Central Diamond Company" of Barney Barnato was purchased by Cecil Rhodes's company "De Beers". Alfredo returned to Italy and rejoined his aging father, bringing his passion to artisan jewelry making. Soon after, maintaining the Family Business fell on his shoulders, and in 1894 first independent artworks of young master Alfredo D'Amato were presented. Although Alfredo had not been involved in such delicate work with gold before, the family archive was of great help to him, thanks to the pedantry of his grandfather, who had left a priceless treasury of knowledge behind.

1980

The quick success of The Familia D'Amato Jewelry House, established by Alfredo, provided great support to the whole D'Amato family and became a solid foundation for the brand's sustainable future. Alfredo's son Emilio took over the jewelry House after Alfredo, and Alfredo's grandson ruled the House after him. Alfredo managed not only to create a unique style that cannot be confused with anything else but also to exalt his personality in the family's history. As a result, in 1980, the great-grandson of Alfredo D'Amato Massimiliano transformed the Familia D'Amato House into The House of Alfredo D'Amato, thus highlighting Alfredo's ineffable contribution to the family's success.

2010

In the early stages of our century, the family business decided to redirect its efforts from independently made jewelry made to order, to expand onto the family specialty - stones. The company decided to share its expertise in gemological craft, producing jewelry with the most unique combination of raw materials and their cuts.
